One of the most misunderstood aspects of weight loss is the belief that if you simply reduces fat intake, you will lose fat from the body.
While the average Australian does consume far too much of the wrong sorts of fats, and that this does contribute to certain disease conditions, when it comes to losing weight, fat intake is not the main problem.
The main player in successful weight loss is carbohydrate.
How many times have you seen overweight people in the supermarket and all the food in their shopping trolley is 98% fat free. These people only eat low fat food but continue to grow.
Here is an explanation of how that happens:
When you consume more carbohydrate (such as bread, rice, pasta, cereals, potato and products derived from them) than can be used or burnt as energy straight away, then the body will convert this carbohydrate to fat and store it in fat cells.
In Australia, we seem to be following the American trend of being an overweight population. In this increasingly overweight society we are seeing major increases in diseases such as mature onset diabetes, arthritis, bowel cancer and heart disease just to name a few.
If you consider that for every kilogram of fat you store, the body has to manufacture approximately 300 kilometres of blood vessels to feed it, you can see the increased stress that each kilogram of body fat is placing on the heart.
The SlimSafe program is designed specifically to limit the amount of excess carbohydrate consumed. The body will then gently mobilise the energy reserves in fat cells.
Mealtimes should also be pleasant and relaxed.
Encourage family mealtime interaction without stress.
Eating slowly is very very important.
Slow eating during a meal helps you to learn how to interpret cues for hunger and fullness and how to regulate how much you eat.
Laying the table nicely and all sitting down as a family is a positive end to the day. The other benefits about eating slowly and chewing well, is that it ensure that protein is broken down properly which provides a sense of satiety or fullness. Eating slowly and relaxed also ensures that the body releases the right chemicals into the stomach to break down food properly. This makes sure that there is proper vitamin and mineral absorption as well.
Stress at the Dinner table prevents the body from releasing gastric juices and therefore leads to poor breakdown of food and poor assimilation of vitamins and minerals into the body.

Slimsafe Online hit a new milestone this week by reaching 100,000 customers in Australia and Internationally.
We are very happy that the word is spreading about the SlimSafe weight loss program.
Don’t forget… If you tell someone about the program and they do a 5 week program, you will receive 1 week for free (they must tell us your name of course). What an incentive. Tell everyone and you could lose all the weight you want for free.
SlimSafe is very much a word of mouth program as we don’t promote with huge budgets that you eventually pay for. That is why the program is so reasonably priced.
So go on, tell everyone about the great results people are getting.

What a great result. Mr.MF from Queensland finished his 5th week this week and he has lost a total of 14.3kgs. That’s in just 5 weeks. Here is the important point: He lost this weight without the stressful exercise you see on shows like the ‘Biggest Loser’.
I think that this type of working out is unnecessary to lose weight in a healthy and sensible way.
But let me say, that I do applaud all those people in the Biggest Loser for making the effort to change their lives.
Now, back to the point. Mr. MF lost this weight from walking 30 minutes a day and following the SlimSafe program. Eating sensibly, exercising sensibly. This is the key to healthy long term weight loss.
Who wants to have to go to the gym for hours a day just to stay at the same weight.
So, Get going… get losing…. it’s time for you to make the decision to change your life.

She found it easy to do with just a walk a day with the kids, and it has changed her life.
Well, 19.5kgs would change anybody’s lives.
We at SlimSafe wish to congratulate R.M. for the wonderful result and the wonderful feedback.
Don’t forget that you can acheive these results too if you follow the SlimSafe program.

A study published in
Diabetes Care 2002
1 demonstrated that a higher protein diet is far superior for fat loss and blood lipid chemistry of obese, insulin resistant individuals. Two groups of type 2 diabetic patients received either a high protein diet or a high carbohydrate diet and observed for 12 weeks. Both diets resulted in weight loss however, there was greater weight and more importantly fat loss in the high protein group. The individuals on a high protein diet also experience a significant reduction in dangerous LDL cholesterol.
Both groups consumed the same levels of calories and fat, which demonstrates that a higher protein, lower carbohydrate diet is superior for fat lass and cholesterol management in insulin resistant, obese subjects.
In another study published in Pediatrics (1998) a group of morbidly obese adolescence aged 12-15 years of age and weighing an average of 147.8Kg, an average weightloss of 15.4Kg was observed.
This group consumed a ketogenic diet with a carbohydrate level of 25gms.
Dual-energy x-ray and bioimpedance confirmed that this weight loss was predominantly fat. Average percentage body fat loss was 44.2% to 51.1%. Blood chemistry remained normal and an improvement in cholesterol was observed2.
The complication of Diabetes can be devastating. The leading cause of type 2 diabetes is chronic obesity. In the last decade, obesity rates in Australia and the USA have doubled. In the USA, that is 55million people, and in Australia, 1 in 4 people are classified as obese. In another trial, 36 insulin dependant diabetic patients were placed on a ketogenic based diet, while being monitored in hospital. After an average of only 1.9 days, these patients no longer required insulin injections as their blood glucose levels had normalised. After
41 weeks, only 8 out of the 36 patients required insulin injections. The conclusion of this study was that a ketogenic diet appears to be a generally successful means of weaning obese diabetic adult patients from insulin.3.
So it appears from this research, if you stop eating refined carbohydrates, you actually have a choice of being type 2 diabetic or not.
